QYNN

WA’s BEST KEPT MUSICAL SECRET..

The pigeon holes that exist within music have always been a bad fit for “QYNN.” Recently recognised as one of the most “talented guitarists in Australia ” his show is unlike any other soloist. QYNN’S ability to sing and play guitar whilst playing digital drums with his feet simultaneously has been described by music critics as “genuinely talented” and his sound like “Neil Finn meets Tommy Emanuel.”

His guitar playing will inspire you, his lyrics will captivate you and his energetic show will give you a taste of the extraordinary. The secret is out…..

Qynn plays Settlers on Sunday 6 & 13 July from 4-7pm.

SNEAKY WEASEL GANG
Date: 11 July

Venue: Settlers Tavern, Margaret River

Roots music had never been so sneaky and cheeky until four happening fellas started groovin' one summers day.

Love your way back to the sixties to collect some psychadelic funk groove and free lovin' guitar blues, dance over to kingston town for some seventies island rhythms and let your soul do the shaking as you loose your self in the spacious weasel jam.

Hailing from a costal pocket of the South-West, these four young school lads found themselves jamming on a regular basis following a small number of sucessful party gigs in 2006. Two hundred shows later including an independant thirty date tour and a fantastic debut EP the Sneaky Weasel Gang are spear heading the coastal roots movement of Western Australia.

Be sure to catch them on their home turf at Settlers Tavern on Friday 11th July.

FUNK CLUB - JAMES DE LA CRUZ (AVALANCHES)
Date: 12 July

Venue: Settlers Tavern Margaret River

James dela Cruz is regarded to be one of Australia's most original and respected DJ's to date and has the reputation of bringing down the house with his unique style of DJing- fusing fresh turntable elements along with an eclectic, but cohesive track selection: turntable tricks, hip hop, urban and dance feature throughout, as well as obscure records, Arabic, reggae and house. James appreciation for music is apparent in his DJ sets.

James' talents drew the attention of The Avalanches, whom he later joined as DJ/keyboards touring at length internationally to sold out venues and festivals, the band later receiving international acclaim.

James's DJ sets come straight at you from the heart, reflecting an unbridled passion for music and a keen enthusiasm to get the party started. Rather than sticking to any one style of music at any one time, James dips and dives backwards and forward across his extensive collection, putting together sets that are totally out there and 100% unique.

Enjoy the feel good sounds of James De La Cruz at Settlers Tavern, supported by Swami Adima on Saturday 12 July. Tickets $10.

THE RESONATORS
Date: 13 July

Venue: Settlers Tavern Margaret River

Blues duo, The Resonators, turn the pages back to the haunted railroad melodies and cotton - field choruses that defined the Mississippi Delta area during the early nineteen-hundreds.

A ghostly junction of hobo - folk, crossroad sermon and ramblin' man romance, the father - son act aren't afraid to tell you how it is and deliver the raw and brutal truth of 1930's Delta Blues tradition.

With an impressive swag of genuine blues tools - some of which are almost 100 years old - and a list of influences that reads like a Mississippi Delta almanac, The Resonators will bring out the dirty old bluesman in you...... even if you ain't one.

SOMETHING IN THE WATER
Date: 17 July

Venue: Settlers Tavern, Margaret River

Contact Details: www.somethinginthewater.com.au

“What is it about Perth, that produces so many good bands?”…

Eager eyes on the other side of the Australian continent now look west, to see what new and unique talent will emerge from beyond their horizon. Eskimo Joe, Snowman, Little Birdy, The Sleepy Jackson and Birds of Tokyo –these are but a few contemporary bands that have defied the tyranny of distance to dominate national airwaves.

But there’s more to the fertile Perth music industry, and its bent for producing some of our finest musicians, than what we see today. The Farriss Brothers and INXS, Dave Faulkner and The Hoodoo Gurus all materialised in this West Coast capital. Meanwhile, the Triffids managed to change the landscape of Australian music, before returning to their humble roots in the port town of Fremantle.

So in the spirit of other international music documentaries such as Hype and Live Forever, SOMETHING IN THE WATER explores the rich history and diverse setting of a hitherto neglected part of Perth’s identity. …Is it the isolation, the environment or the scene itself? Or is there in fact “something in the water”?

Stay for a very special live performance by WA's latest phenomena SUGAR ARMY plus....special live opening performance by RICHARD LANE of the STEMS (both performers are in the movie).

When: Thursday 17th July 8.30pm.

If you want to enjoy a show of great music and laid back vibe you’ve got to check out the John Read Band.
